The 50 Book story
The concept for The 50 Book emerged when undertaking a Master of Documentary Photography at Sydney College of the Arts. There, I created a book and exhibition After Midnight. Part of the seres was later exhibited in the Head On Photo Festival and I was delighted to have several images nominated for various photographic prizes.
Most importantly, the ideas struck a chord with most women I knew. After the age of 50, women in Western society are often deemed worthless and invisible. We all sought to challenge this idea. On the contrary, we felt our 50s were a time of opportunity and contribution.
I was lucky to have the project taken on by publisher Captain Honey. Publishing Director Roz Hopkins and Creative Director Natalie Winter and I had worked for many years together creating beautiful illustrated books for Harper Collins Publishers. We all knew about books, and Roz and Natalie are among the best in the business. The 50 Book was Captain Honey’s first book. I am immensely grateful to them for helping me bring this to life..
